The new Economy Minister
The new Economy Minister, Román Escolano, has decided to relieve the current secretary general of the Treasury, Emma Navarro, by the economist Fernando Navarrete, current financial officer of the Official Credit Institute and director for five years (2007-2012) of the area of Economy of the FAES foundation. Escolano has proposed the appointment to the Council of Ministers and thus makes the first major change in the Ministry after replacing Luis de Guindos as published this newspaper last Sunday. Navarrete is a person of his entire confidence, also as himself close to José María Aznar, and supporter of relaunching economic reforms despite the difficulties involved in the current term. Relieves Navarro, who will be the new vice president of the European Investment Bank on behalf of Spain to replace Escolano itself.
The Secretary General of the Treasury is one of the most important positions in the economic apparatus of the State. In addition to the control of debt issuance and preparation of international meetings in the Eurozone, it also involves holding a position as a director in the Bank of Spain and in the National Securities Market Commission.
Fernando Navarrete has a degree in Economics with an extraordinary end-of-career award from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and a Bachelor's Degree from the Bank of Spain on leave of absence, according to his official biography.
He has completed post-graduate studies in Economics and Finance at the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies (CEMFI), in Security and Defense at the UCM-National Defense Studies Center (CESEDEN) and has completed the Leadership Program in Public Management at IESE.
